CVOP Program Structure

The CVOP in the ICD® program is a mix of self-guided and facilitator-led instruction, practicum, and peer-supported learning.

There are five modules plus an orientation, spread over an 8-week period, which includes a 4-week break for practicum learning.

Classes occur on the following schedule:

Orientation

  • Introduction of Participants
  • Outline of program, explanation of process
  • Introduction and outline of course administration
  • Explanation of Student Practicum

Module 1 – What is Virtual Organizing?

  • ICD® Code of Ethics
  • What is VO, and what is it not?
  • Benefits of VO
  • Ways of Working Virtually

Module 2 – Tools and Structure

  • Identifying the VO Team
  • Administration of VO work
  • The VO Toolbox
  • Maintaining Motivation

Practicum Block

  • Expectation of 6 to 10 client sessions over 4 weeks
  • Check-ins with the class in the online forum after each session for feedback
  • Themed discussions in forum – influencing the client, using positive feedback, empowering the client, using clear and concise communication with the client
  • Module 3 Meeting with the group at the end of week 5
  • Module 4 Meeting with the group at the end of week 7

Module 5 – Marketing and Next Steps

  • Marketing through Education and Inspiration
  • Marketing strategies, tools, channels,
  • Exam preparation

Exam

  • Open book, due within three days of Module 5
