Hoarding Education for Professionals

Hoarding Education for Professionals who are not subscribers to ICD®

In response to requests from our colleagues, ICD® is pleased to announce that we are offering a series of classes about hoarding, with tips and suggestions for working with these clients. The classes have been developed to educate people working in code enforcement, hoarding task forces, senior housing and similar positions where they may encounter hoarding situations.

The cost for the 6-class package is $250, and a certificate of completion is awarded. A discount is available for groups of 3 or more from the same company or agency.

The classes included are:

Introduction to Hoarding, Boundaries and Safety

Solutions for Hoarding: Alternatives to Rapid Clearout

Harm Reduction in Hoarding Situations

Health and Safety in a Hoarded Home

Hoarding and Squalor

Understanding the ICD Clutter – Hoarding Scale®

Professionals who complete this package will understand the definition of hoarding disorder, the characteristics of clients with hoarding behavior, and the likelihood of conditions that coexist with hoarding disorder.  They will be familiar with effective treatment strategies recommended by mental health professionals for hoarding disorder and effective organizing strategies for working with clients with hoarding behavior. They will be able to identify resources available to help in hoarding situations. They will be keenly aware of safety issues and able to identify their personal limits when working with clients who display hoarding behavior.

A professional who completes these classes will earn a Certificate of Completion in Hoarding Education and has completed 6 hours of education in this area.
