Submit Your Case Study
The ICD Research Advisory Council and Research Committee invite you to share your case studies. Your contribution and experience can help a client seeking assistance, strengthen the organizing industry, and establish ICD as the research hub for anyone seeking information on chronic disorganization.
We welcome cases that reflect progress, setbacks, changing goals, or unresolved questions. A case does not need a successful ending to offer valuable lessons. Your submission may be simple or complex, short or long. No case study is too common or insignificant; understanding how frequently similar experiences occur helps us appreciate the full scope of this work. Most importantly, we want to understand your story from multiple perspectives, including your own, your clients’ and those of others involved.
Why We’re Gathering Case Studies
- Your Case Studies will move our field forward. Research on chronic disorganization and the work of organizing professionals remains limited. The challenges we see are complex, including but not limited to multiple co-occurring mental health conditions, physical health conditions, family relationships, housing conditions, financial constraints, cultural scenarios, and more. Case studies give us an entry point for building a shared understanding of our work. By documenting which interventions worked and which did not, we create a foundation to build on.
- Case studies strengthen collaboration with mental health professionals and other individuals adjacent to our field. Well-documented cases replace abstract conversation with real-life examples. They show us concrete ways to work alongside other professionals, raise new questions, and keep expanding what we know together.
- Case studies help the people we serve. Individuals who struggle with chronic disorganization are often misunderstood. The more we learn and share, the more we foster a culture of openness and camaraderie. The more we learn, the more our clients see themselves and their struggles with compassion and feel more understood.
There are two ways to participate
Get support with a client challenge OR success. If you’re facing a challenge or experiencing a success with a client and want to better understand what you’re observing, consider submitting your case study. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with experts and mental health professionals from the ICD Research Advisory Council and participate in an ICD Class.
Case study classes are held once per quarter, with dates scheduled based on your availability and that of the RAC Speaker. Each class lasts approximately 90 minutes, and you’ll be compensated for your participation.
Case studies selected for a class are approved by the Research Advisory Council based on factors such as topic popularity, potential duplication, and RAC member availability.
Contribute to the research database. Not interested in participating in a class but want to share a case study? Your case study can be added to the ICD research database so that other practitioners can learn from your experience.
Be part of something bigger
Every case study helps us see patterns, identify common challenges, and refine our practice. When you submit yours, you’re helping build the research our industry needs and a stronger bridge between organizing professionals and mental health professionals.
This submission form will take roughly 10-20 minutes to complete. You are not required to include your name or other personal information. However, if you are seeking help from the Research Advisory Council, we will need your name and email to reach out to you.
Please be aware of using the client’s name in your submission. It may be best to use a pseudonym. Do not provide details of where the client lives or any of their contact information. If you plan to share photos or videos, please ensure you have proper permission from your client to do so.
