Sarah Butler, PhD, is an Associate Professor, Psychology, College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois. As an academic and a social psychologist she has varied interests that include her roles as a teacher, as a scientific researcher, and as an advocate for the application of psychological knowledge. Sarah tells her students that “everything that deals with people deals with psychology” and she believes that all people can benefit from having a better understanding of themselves and others. Her research interests include the science of teaching and learning, metacogntition and the methods through which developing more metacognitive awareness can be useful in areas such decluttering and organizing, and environmental mechanisms for facilitating social interaction and connections with others.

At College of DuPage, Sarah teaches courses including General Psychology, Social Psychology, Statistics, Behavioral Research Methods, and Human Sexuality. She is a member of several professional organizations related to psychology, including the Society for Teaching of Psychology (STP) and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP). Sarah is currently a member of the Presidential Taskforce on Membership from Historically Black College and Universities, Minority Serving Institutions and Tribal Colleges and Universities.

In relation to her work on the psychological processes of decluttering, Sarah does one-on-one educational sessions with individuals to help them to identify their individual clutter challenges and to match decluttering strategies to their specific needs. Sarah is a subscriber with the Institute of Challenging Disorganization (ICD) through which she is working on her Foundation Certificate of Study in Chronic Disorganization. Sarah’s LinkedIn Page
