Hoarding in Adults with ADHD: Why Inattention (also) Matters
With Sharon Morein, PhD, SFHEA, FPsycS
from Anglia Ruskin University, UK
Description:
Though hoarding develops by early adulthood, many individuals do not recognize that they have a problem until later in life, if at all. This has resulted in our understanding is based largely on samples of predominantly older females who seek help for hoarding. Previously linked to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), it has been suggested that many individuals with hoarding disorder have high inattention levels reminiscent of Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I will describe a study assessing hoarding in adults with ADHD and consider how this can inform current models of hoarding, taking into account cognitive, emotional and social-environmental considerations.
